Visits to Sekondi-Takoradi and Plymouth

The two cities are of similar size and both have ports, fishing harbours and naval bases. The project is multi-faceted, involving links between the two city councils enshrined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Mayors of both cities, local schools and colleges, health service departments, football teams and sporting associations, Rotary club, young people and creative and media organisations.
The purpose of the link is to foster good relations and friendships through common understanding, the sharing of culture, sport and learning.

July 2010 We were delighted during Ghana Week to host four visitors from Sekondi-Takoradi: nana Kofi Imbeah, Metro Director of Education and his wife Nora, the Cheif Inspector for the Western Region, and John Boafo, Principal of Takoradi Technical Institute and his wife Emilia, Principal of Takoradi YMCA Vocational Training Institute. Also, Elizabeth Nicol, Deputy High Commisioner to the UK, came for dinner with the Lord Mayor.

Right at the start of the week, Nick Westcott, British High Commissioner to Ghana, spenta very useful few hours meeting Link members and learning about what we do. A series of productive meetings, at Windsor House, Marjons, Plymouth University, the YMCA and in several schools has emsured that there will be lasting benefits from these visits.
