Memorandum of Understanding between the Cities of Plymouth and Sekondi-Takoradi
Preamble: The Citizens of Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana and Plymouth, England, having agreed in a spirit of openness and friendship jointly sign this Memorandum of Understanding.
It acknowledges that the main aim of linking our fine cities is to promote a partnership of equals between the people of both cities in order to develop a global perspective. It will do this through:
- a) Promoting learning through links between our local government departments, educational and health institutions, sports, cultural, faith and youth groups, commercial enterprises and the media.
- b) Fostering contacts of all kinds between our citizens in the belief that all will benefit.
- c) Exchange visits by citizens of Plymouth and Sekondi-Takoradi which will lead to learning opportunities about each other and information sharing that will contribute to the development of a more global perspective.
This memorandum will be reviewed as and when necessary and in any case at least every two years.
The accompanying annex expands on this memorandum.

Annex
We envisage that the link will develop in a variety of ways. The following are examples with possible key objectives:
1. SPORTS
- a) The link shall assist in the development of and promotion of sports activities and games in schools and communities of both cities.
- b) The link shall foster greater co-operation between sports clubs.
2. CULTURAL
- Cultural events that will be jointly organised by people of Plymouth and Sekondi-Takoradi.
3. HEALTH
- a) Exchange and training of health personnel to ensure better and efficient health care delivery for our citizens.
- b) Use technology to develop health care in our cities.
4. EDUCATION
- a) Links between schools as a means of fostering deeper understanding between the youth of our cities.
- b) Opportunities for students of both cities to benefit through exchange visits.
5. INVESTMENTS, TRADE AND BUSINESS
- a) To bring together, business partners from both cities to undertake investments that will generate employment for our people.
- b) To promote exchange of business ideas that will create wealth.
